Muhammad Bin Tughluq (AH 725-752; AD 1325-1351) inherited the throne after the death of his father Ghias-ud-din Tughluq. The real name of Muhammad Bin Tughluq was Fakhr-ud-din Muhammad Junna Khan. The Tughluqs belonged to the Muslim family of Turkish origin. He was a brilliant ruler and had an unconventional way of thought. He was the most controversial ruler for having shifted his capital from Delhi to Deogiri and renamed it as Daulatabad. He also switched currency from silver to brass and copper token currency also known as black tanka. A quite bold move of his reign.

Muhammad Bin Tughluq issued coins in gold, silver and billion. One of his gold dinar which weighs around 12.7g minted in Mulk ma’abar was sold for INR 4, 00, 000 at Classical Numismatic Gallery on 12th April 2015. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as “Fi Zaman Al-Abid Al-Wathiq Bi-Nasir Allah Muhammad Bin Tughluq. And the reverse of the coin is inscribed as “la ilaha illallah muhammadur rasulullah” in shahada within a circle, and Arabic legend Hizz Al-Sikka Fi-Mulk Ma’abar Sanah and date 733(In words) in the margin.
